2024 Annual Meeting and Election Results

On February 21, the pool club had its annual meeting.  We reviewed the budget and plans for the 2024 pool season.  Key points made included:

• The 2024 maintenance fee will remain $475 for 2024.  We do anticipate having to draw on our cash reserves a bit this year to make some repairs and investments in the facility, including:

• Removal of dead/dying trees (judged by an arborist) on the property which pose a hazard, and the planting of new trees.

• Clearing a root problem in the snack bar drainage line, which may require tearing up the parking lot to replace a section of pipe

• Replacement of the small playground set near the baby pool

• Replacement of the backflow protection valve on our water line(s)

• NVPools will be performing a refresh of some equipment in the pump room before we open, to ensure that the pool water remains in excellent condition.

• Depending on what happens to the economy, it’s likely that the 2025 maintenance fee will be increased, so members should keep that in mind.

• Maintenance fees may be paid on MemberSplash beginning in March 2024, and are due (as always) by April 15.

• The swim and dive teams both had excellent seasons in 2023, and we have new dive reps for 2024 and our dive team has moved up to division 3.  Our swim head coach will return, and we will be recruiting coaching positions through April. We will also be replacing the small diving board with a new 1/2 meter stand and a bouncier board.

• The pool has two reverted memberships for sale.  We will post information on the pool website in March about our lottery process, after the board sets the price for a membership.

• We are looking for help with the planning and managing of special activities this season. Please reach out to Bethany Quick to volunteer for the special activities committee.

• There were no bylaws amendments

Mr. Cummings, Mr. Perez, and Mr. DiGaudio will serve terms ending in February 2027, and Mr. McCurry and Mr. Metzinger will serve terms that end in February 2025.

2024 ANNUAL MEETING - BOARD OF DIRECTORS ELECTION

The Annual Meeting will be held on February 21, at 7:30 PM, at the Greenbriar East Elementary School, in the Cafeteria. We will present the proposed 2024 budget, including any significant refreshes/upgrades to the facilities. There were no proposed bylaws changes for the membership to vote on. We will also hold our annual election for seats on the board.

This year we have five board seats that are expiring and up for election.  Two terms will expire in February 2025 and the other three terms will expire in February of 2027.  The directors who filled these seats are all running for re-election, and we have one other candidate who has registered to have their name put on the ballot.

In alphabetical order here is a list of the candidates:

• Brian Cummings: currently appointed til 02/2024 and serving as an At-Large Board member.

• Matt DiGaudio: currently appointed til 02/2024 and serving as an At-Large Board member.

• Lesley Martinez: current Greenbriar pool member interested in running for an At-Large Board member position.

• Jeff McCurry: currently elected til 02/2024 and serving as the Pool Board Treasurer

• Tim Metzinger: currently elected til 02/2024 and serving as the Pool Board President

• Gus Perez: currently elected til 02/2024 and serving as an At-Large Board member

At our Annual Meeting on Wednesday, February 21, when you check-in, you will receive one ballot for your membership.  The ballot will have all six candidates listed, as well as three spaces for you to write in additional candidates.  Each membership should vote for no more than five candidates.  Any ballot with more than five votes will be discarded, so don’t hesitate to request a new ballot if needed. The three candidates with the most votes will be elected to terms that expire in February 2027, and the next two candidates will be elected to terms that expire in February of 2025. There are no term limits in the bylaws, so any candidate whose term expires is free to run for another term.

The Board will collect and count the ballots at the end of the meeting.  Candidates should stay and observe the counting, and other members are welcome as well.  Once the counting is complete, the new board will go into executive session and self-select the five officers for the 2024 season.  The results will be sent to all members via email and posted on the website no later than Saturday, the 24th of February.

January Message from the Board

Members,

The Board hopes that everyone had joyful holidays. The pool and pickleball courts survived the wind and rain earlier this week (thanks to Board members Tim, Chance, and Matt for pulling the lane line reel off the pool cover). It’s been good to see the pickleball courts being used on the warmer days.

The next meeting of the Board will be held on January 17th at Greenbriar East at 7:30 PM. If anyone wishes to address the board at the meeting, please send an email by 5 PM Friday (1/12/2024) to pool@greenbriar.org with your name, member, and a short synopsis of the topic you wish to discuss. If you wish to attend/observe, please RSVP by 1/14/2024. The RSVP will help us make sure there’s sufficient seating ready.

In February, we’ll have our annual membership meeting. This year, due to some resignations earlier, we have five board seats open for election. Three terms will expire in February 2027, and two will expire in February 2025. Any member in good standing may have his/her name placed on the ballot. To have your name placed on the ballot, please send an email to pool@greenbriar.org NO LATER than 1/24/2024. Include your name, member number, and contact information. You’ll get a confirmation, and be asked to submit a short summary of your goals in joining the Board.
